first became interested in drawing & painting
the female form at a Life Drawing Class I took
while living in Southern California in the summer
of 2000. It was intense because it met three times
a week, always after a full work day, always with
a live model; the students that were there were
not artists - it was a class for beginners. The
instructor was so inspiring, I will never forget
him saying the female form represents every possible
line & curve in art.... it left a mark. Later
in 2002/2003 I worked with the "I AM Collaborative" on
body casting, and although I was not the casting
artist - I was personally casted twice while I
worked for the project. That experience & leaving
with a body cast of my own unique figure inspired
me to try painting figures. Much like the cast
I tend to be drawn to the core, to me it is where
the heart & sole of the figure live! |
